Endermen are arguably one of the creepiest monsters in Minecraft. Not only are they unusually tall, but they can also teleport and attack you from the shadows. Their design is based on the Slenderman myth that spread across the internet in the early 2010s. Since then, the Enderman has become one of the most feared yet beloved mobs in the entire game! Not only are their Ender Pearls highly sought after, but they’re also perfect for XP farms. Today, we’ll explore one of the simplest designs for such a farm. While it’s more for advanced players, it’s still relatively easy to set up.
Why build an Enderman farm in Minecraft?
You’ve probably seen Endermen in the Overworld, and maybe you’ve even dared to fight them. They only attack you if you look at them directly. If you’ve noticed, they drop a specific item that you definitely shouldn’t miss out on!
Ender Pearls
You can sometimes find Ender Pearls in mineshafts, but the best way to get them is by killing Endermen. You can throw the pearls like snowballs to teleport. While this does cause some damage, it’s a cool way to quickly get from point A to point B.
More importantly, you can combine the Ender Pearl with Blaze Powder to create an Eye of Ender. These are crucial if you want to complete Minecraft and defeat the Ender Dragon. You’ll need about a stack, or 16 of them. Some are used to find the Stronghold, while the rest are placed in the portal to the End.
Additionally, Eyes of Ender can be used in crafting recipes for End Crystals and Ender Chests. Both items are immensely helpful in the late game! While the End Crystal allows you to resurrect the Ender Dragon, the Ender Chest lets you create a universal inventory accessible from anywhere. So, it’s wise to collect many Ender Pearls, and the best way to do that is with an Enderman farm!
Experience Points
In an earlier post about XP farms (Building a Minecraft XP Farm: Quickly and Easily Reach Level 30) , we hinted at an Enderman farm. Today, we’ll finally tackle it! Such a farm is not only far more efficient than one in the Overworld, but it also provides significantly more experience points in a short time. Perfect for enchanting or repairing your tools and weapons.
The perfect location for your Enderman farm in the End
We’re building the Enderman farm not in the Overworld or the Nether, but in the End. This is the third dimension in Minecraft, which you can only reach through a dedicated portal. Use the Eyes of Ender to lead you to a Stronghold and open the way to the End. There, you’ll find not only the big end boss but also hundreds of Endermen!
You should defeat the Ender Dragon before building the farm so that you can work undisturbed. We’re taking advantage of the mechanic that nothing else spawns here except Endermen, and plenty of them! That’s why this farm is so efficient, as there’s no competition.
Step-by-step guide: How to build an Enderman farm in Minecraft
There are various designs for an Enderman farm, but we’ve chosen one of the simplest. This farm is still very efficient but doesn’t require an Endermite to attract Endermen. Instead, we focus on the fact that Endermen will attack you if you look at them! This way, we lure them to the farm without them being able to attack you directly.
Leaves are one of the most important materials for this farm. Use shears or hoes to collect them from trees. Endermen can’t spawn on leaves, which we use to our advantage.
List of materials
- At least 9 stacks of leaves
- 1 stack of slabs
- Building blocks
- 7 torches
- 6 scaffolds
- 1 armor stand
- 3 water buckets
- 1 lava bucket
Step-by-step instructions
First, we need to reach the bottom of the End. This can be tricky because the dimension consists of floating islands. There’s no direct ground, so we’ll have to build one ourselves. Go to the edge of the large island and let a lava flow over the edge to the bottom. Once it reaches the bottom, collect the lava and repeat the process with water. This will form a cobblestone pillar down to the “ground” of the End, which you can use.
Next, build approximately 160 blocks (25 stacks) away from the large island, using leaves. This might take some time, so hold the Shift key carefully! Add 4 more leaves and then build a small platform consisting of two small triangles surrounded by leaves.
Now place the 6 scaffolds on the respective building blocks. In the middle, and one block above, place the armor stand. This prevents the Endermen from attacking you. Above it, add a roof made of leaves.
Next, we’ll build the platform where the Endermen spawn. Extend 22 blocks with leaves, twice, with a 3-block gap between. This creates a sort of walkway for the Endermen.
Extend 4 more blocks from the middle and then build a row of 18 slabs, 3 blocks wide. Surround the slabs with 5 rows of leaves each to complete the platform.
Finally, place water on all the leaves on the chamber and the two walkways, 30 blocks in front of the chamber. Create an infinite water source and place water on the leaves. This prevents the Endermen from teleporting to the leaves.
Stand in front of the farm. The Endermen should start appearing on the slabs further back. Look at them through the armor stand. Once they’ve gathered on the two walkways, swing your sword! It’s best to use a sword with Sweeping Edge to deal enough damage.
Conclusion: The benefits of an Enderman farm in Minecraft
If you’ve already been to the End and defeated the Ender Dragon, then there’s nothing stopping you from building an Enderman farm! It’s easy to build, efficient, and probably one of the best sources for experience points. Plus, our design doesn’t require a pesky Endermite and works normally.
