It’s less useful for valuable resources like diamonds, but if you have several stacks of them, you can use it for those as well.

Keep in mind that this system only sorts one type of block or item into each chest. The item filter requires this to ensure proper sorting. You’ll need plenty of chests to fill the storage.

You’ll also need some space, as the mechanism for the automatic sorter takes up several blocks. Besides a long double chest, you’ll need at least 5 blocks of space behind it.

Materials Needed for Building an Automatic Storage System in Minecraft

As mentioned, the setup isn’t exactly cheap. You’ll mainly need a lot of hoppers, which require a significant amount of iron. 1. Start the mechanism with a double chest, where the items will later be directed. Behind it, place a hopper leading into the chest. As mentioned, you’ll need 5 more blocks of space behind this. Place a block behind the hopper and attach a Redstone torch to a block beneath it. Behind this, place a repeater into another gap, pointing towards the block with the torch.

2. Once the first row of Redstone is laid, it’s time for the second level. Place 3 blocks of building material behind the hopper. Then, introduce the comparator. This needs to be placed in front of the block behind the hopper. The two prongs should face forward. Behind this, lay three more Redstone dust.

3. Now, you need to install the item sorter. Attach another hopper in front of the comparator with a shift-click. This causes the comparator to compare items in the hopper and ensures that only specific items end up in the chest. To set this up, you need to create a filter. Use a block of your choice that can stack up to 64 items. Place one of these in the four last slots of the hopper in front of the comparator.

In the first slot of the hopper, place the material you want sorted into the chest below. You need at least 42 blocks here, as 41 remain in the hopper to ensure the comparator functions. This design is more suitable for a large storage system. The 41 blocks ensure the Redstone signal is balanced and doesn’t overlap with adjacent chests.

And there you have the basic principle of your storage system! While the initial setup might be a bit challenging, it’s quite straightforward to understand and implement. The key is ensuring the filter functions properly.

Expanding Your Minecraft Storage: Building Infinitely Large Storage Systems

1. This automatic sorting system can be expanded indefinitely. You’ll just need enough hoppers and Redstone, but the design can be built in a single line. As described above, the Redstone signals don’t overlap thanks to the filter. Each filter works with 4 individual filter items and the 41 chest items.

2. Finally, you’ll need to build a storage chest where you can later empty your inventory. A chest at the end of the hopper line is the starting point. Here, all items that can’t be sorted will end up. Above this, build another line of hoppers, all pointing into each other. On the last hopper, place the chest, allowing items to be distributed into all the hoppers.

Now the system is complete! You can label the respective chests with frames or signs to better distinguish them later.
