How to Install a Custom Map in Garry's Mod

To add a map to Garry’s Mod, it is necessary to first subscribe to it in the Steam Workshop.

  1. Navigate to Garry’s Mod in your Steam library.
  2. Click on the Workshop tab.
  3. Under the header image, you will see the categories “Home,” “Browse,”,“Discussions,” and “About.”
  4. Hover your mouse over “Browse” and click on Collections.
  5. On the right side, you will find a button labeled “Create Collection."
    Click on it.
  6. Follow the instructions provided by Steam to create your collection.
(The more unique and specific the name of the collection, the easier it will be to find later.)

Once the collection is created and saved, click on “Choose items for your collection” in the next window.
Then, select the “Subscribed items” tab and add your subscribed mod to the collection by clicking on the “+” sign on the left.
Click on “Save and Continue” at the bottom right.
Finally, in the next window, click on “Publish” to make the collection public.

Now, go back to the Steam library and click on Workshop under Garry’s Mod.

NOTE: It may take some time for the collection to appear!

In the search bar at the top-right, enter the name of your collection.
Once you find your own collection, right-click on it and select “Copy Page URL."
Paste the copied URL into your web browser’s address bar and open the page.
You will now see your newly created collection. The ID of the collection will be displayed at the end of the browser URL.
Copy this Workshop ID (usually a 10-digit number).

In Basic Mode:

In the “Basic Config” section under “Server Settings,” paste the copied ID into the “WorkshopID (own)” field.
Click “Save” to apply the changes.
Finally, in the “Map Cycle” section, enter the map name under “Custom Map” and click the “+” button to add it.
Click “Save” to apply the changes and restart the server.

In Advanced Mode:

In the “Configuration” section, under “Commandline,” paste the ID into the “WorkshopID” field.
Click “Save” to apply the changes.
Finally, in the “Configuration Files” section, find “mapcycle.txt” and enter the map name.
Click “Save” to apply the changes and restart the server.
