What is an Alias

An IP address is not easy to remember, and it also lacks any reference to what it represents.
For this reason, 4Netplayers offers an alias option.
An alias is essentially just a sub-domain.
The 4Netplayers system creates a so-called DNS entry for the IP address.
Instead of giving out a complicated IP address on your clan’s homepage or to friends in IRC,
you can simply provide something like daddelkiste.4npserver.de.
That’s much easier to remember than, say, 195.4.17.131, right?

Please note that the domain remains the property of 4Players GmbH.
With the expiration of the contract, the right to use the (sub-)domain also expires.
We reserve the right to reuse the (sub-)domain.

How can I set up this alias?

When setting up the IP address (which is automatically initiated after the first login),
there is the possibility to create such an alias.
When the IP is set up, the request is sent to our DNS server.
It may take up to 48 hours for the alias to work worldwide.
As long as the DNS entry has not been completed, “DNS entry for alias” will appear in the server’s to-do list.
Once this entry disappears, the domain should also be functional.

Can I change my alias afterwards?

It is possible to change the alias afterwards.
This can be done under IP Settings.
However, with some providers, it may take up to 24 hours for the new alias to work.
