Building an Enderman Farm in Minecraft: Quickly Gather Infinite Ender Pearls and XP

Endermen are probably one of the creepiest monsters in Minecraft. Not only are they unusually tall, but they can also teleport and ambush you. Their design is based on the Slenderman myth that spread across the internet in the early 2010s. Since then, the Enderman has become one of the most feared, yet beloved mobs in the entire game! Not only are their Ender Pearls highly sought after, but Endermen are also perfect for XP farms! Today, we’re looking at one of the simplest designs for such a farm, which, while geared towards more advanced players, is still relatively easy to implement.

Why build an Enderman farm in Minecraft?

You’ve probably seen Endermen in the Overworld before, and maybe you’ve even dared to fight them. They only attack you if you look directly at them. You’ve likely noticed that they drop only one item that you definitely shouldn’t miss out on!

Ender Pearls

You can sometimes find Ender Pearls in mineshafts, but it’s best to kill Endermen to obtain their pearls. You can throw the pearls like snowballs and teleport with them. Although it does cause you some damage, it’s a cool way to quickly get from point A to point B.

More importantly for your progress in the game, you can combine the Ender Pearl with Blaze Powder to create an Eye of Ender. These are extremely important if you want to finish Minecraft and defeat the Ender Dragon. You’ll need about a stack full, roughly 16, to achieve this. Some are used to find the Stronghold, while the rest are set into the portal to the End.

Additionally, Eyes of Ender can also be used in crafting recipes for End Crystals and Ender Chests. Both items are immensely helpful, especially in the late game! With End Crystals, you can resurrect the Ender Dragon, and with the Ender Chest, you can create a universal inventory that you can access anytime, anywhere. So, it’s wise to collect many Ender Pearls, and the best way to do it is with an Enderman farm!

Experience Points

In an earlier post about XP farms (Building a Minecraft XP Farm: Quickly and Easily Reach Level 30) , we hinted at an Enderman farm. Today, we’re finally tackling it! This farm is not only significantly more efficient than an Overworld farm but also brings you much more experience points in a short time. Perfect for enchantments or repairing your tools and weapons.

The perfect location for your Enderman farm in the End

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 1

We’re not building the Enderman farm in the Overworld or the Nether, but in the End. This is the third dimension in Minecraft, which you can only reach through an appropriate portal. Use the Eyes of Ender that will lead you to a Stronghold and open the way to the End for you. There, you’ll not only face the big end boss but also hundreds of Endermen!

You should have defeated the Ender Dragon to build the farm, as this allows you to work undisturbed. We are taking advantage of the mechanic that nothing spawns here except Endermen, and many of them at that! This is why the farm is so efficient since there’s no one else here.

Step-by-step guide: How to build an Enderman farm in Minecraft

There are various designs for such an Enderman farm, but we’ve chosen one of the simplest building guides. This farm is still very efficient but doesn’t require an Endermite to attract the Endermen. Instead, we’ll focus on the fact that Endermen want to attack you if you look at them! This way, we can lure them in without them directly attacking you.

Leaves are one of the most important building materials for this farm. Use shears or axes to collect them from trees. Endermen cannot spawn on leaves, which we will use to our advantage.

List of building materials

  • At least 9 stacks of leaves
  • 1 stack of slabs
  • Building blocks
  • 7 torches
  • 6 scaffolds
  • 1 armor stand
  • 3 water buckets
  • 1 lava bucket

Step-by-step guide

First, we need to get to the bottom of the End. This can be a bit tricky since the dimension consists of floating islands. There isn’t a direct ground, so we have to build it ourselves. Go to the edge of the large island and let a lava flow over the edge down to the bottom. Once it reaches the bottom, collect the lava again and repeat the process with water. This forms a column of cobblestone down to the “ground” of the End, which you can use.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 2

Now, you need to build about 160 blocks (25 stacks) away from the large island at the bottom using leaves. This can take a while, always keep the Shift key pressed! Add 4 more leaves and then build a small platform. This consists of two small triangles surrounded by leaves.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 3

Now use the 6 scaffolds on the respective building blocks. Place the armor stand in the middle and one block above. This prevents the Endermen from attacking you. Place a roof made of leaves above it.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 4

Next, we’ll build the platform where the Endermen spawn. Build 22 blocks out with leaves, twice parallel, with a 3-block gap. This creates a kind of walkway for the Endermen.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 5

Build 4 more blocks away from the center and then a row of 18 slabs, making it three blocks wide. Around the slabs, you need to add 5 rows of leaves to complete the platform.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 6

Now, you need to place water on all the leaves 30 blocks before the chamber and the two walkways. Build an infinite water source and place water in the leaves. This prevents the Endermen from teleporting onto the leaves.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 7

Stand in front of the farm. The Endermen should already appear on the slabs further back. Look at them through the armor stand. Once they’ve gathered over the two walkways, swing your sword! It’s best to use a sword with Sweeping Edge to deal enough damage.

Minecraft Enderman-Farm 8

Conclusion: The advantages of an Enderman farm in Minecraft

If you’ve already been to the End and defeated the Ender Dragon, then nothing stands in the way of building an Enderman farm! It’s easy to build, efficient, and probably one of the best sources for experience points. Furthermore, our design doesn’t require a pesky Endermite but works just fine.
