You can recognize them by their green and orange copper blocks and the dark grey tuff stone. This gives them an industrial charm, while also appearing like long-forgotten ruins of a past civilization. Trial chambers present a significant challenge, but you’ll be richly rewarded!
How to Find Trial Chambers in Minecraft
You can find trial chambers in several ways. The easiest way is to get an explorer map from a cartographer in a village. These work like the maps for ocean monuments or woodland mansions and show you one of the trial chambers in your world.
Your second option is luck! Trial chambers are best found between Y-Level 0 and -40 and appear only once every 512×512 blocks. The unusual blocks will help you recognize the outer walls when you’re underground. Since the chambers are quite large, they usually span several hundred blocks.
Minecraft Trial Chambers: Structure & Important Features
Once you’ve found a trial chamber, you should first get your bearings and get an overview. The underground structures can be very large and slightly confusing due to the similar blocks. Don’t lose your way and try to draw a mental map.
There are three different components that make up the trial chambers in Minecraft:
- Entrance: You may not always enter through an entrance, but they usually connect naturally to a cave. Entrances are often marked by a planted tree. With some luck, there may also be vaults here.
- Corridors and Passages: These parts of the trial chambers connect the individual rooms and consist of many different components. They are marked by stairs, pillars, and especially many clay pots, which also contain loot. Sometimes you’ll find spawners here, so be cautious!
- Trial Chambers: The chambers themselves are designed to test you against monsters. They are equipped with trial spawners, and you must hold out until all are dead. Here, you will also encounter the Gale, the newest mob in Minecraft.
Trial Spawners in Minecraft: How They Work
Since trial chambers are based on the old dungeons, they also contain spawners. However, these behave differently and don’t just create an infinite number of monsters but are tailored to the trials. They only activate when you’re close enough (14 blocks) and spawn monsters until you’ve defeated them all. Trial spawners can be found in the corridors and in the chambers themselves.
Monsters spawn regardless of the light level, and the type of monsters depends on the chamber’s design. We’ll go into more detail below!
Once all the monsters are defeated, the spawner transforms and gives you various items. Among them are either a vault key (50%), food (15%), or some potions (5%). The trial spawner then remains inactive for 30 minutes, allowing you to return and face the battle again.
Trial Chamber Loot: These Items You Can Find
But why should you take on this challenge? That’s a valid question because a spawner isn’t easy, and it must be worthwhile to visit a trial chamber. Fortunately, there are some fantastic items that you can only obtain here. These are either hidden in chests, clay pots, or vaults. Each player can open a vault only once.
Vaults drop up to six items when you unlock them with a won trial key. Some highlights might include:
- Record “Precipice”
- Special banner pattern for the Gale
- Enchanted trident
- Armour trims
- Wind orbs
The Gale is also worth a visit to the trial chambers because this new mob can only be found here. It resembles the Blaze in the Nether but is based on wind instead of fire and can blow you away. Additionally, it is immune to ranged weapons, so a bow or crossbow won’t get you far here. Gales drop Gale Rods, which are used to craft the new mace.
Activating Sinister Trial Chambers: Here’s How
An even greater challenge is presented by the sinister trial chambers. You can activate these by applying the effect “Ominous Doom” or “Imminent Trial”.
